“The Apple Worm” - iphone 4 virus has a bug

First of all, can I call you Steve? Great. Thanks Steve.
I’ll be honest with you, Steve. I’m not a very big Apple Fan. You have your own video and music format, I can’t share your DRM stuff around my circle of (two) friends, and most of all, I actually have to pay for your software. What a load of crap that is.
Anyway, things are looking to change between you and I, Steve. Ever since my Nokia “magically” died, I am considering buying your iphone 4 when it comes to the Australian market. Bravo to you Steve. I know this is your handy work. Phones just don’t break. I also like your timing when you decided to send your virus, which I call “The Apple Worm”, the same day the iphone 4 was announced. I like your style Steve, I like your style.
But I think that “The Apple Worm” has a bug though. It no longer infects my phone. I think your designers assumed that once a user has decided that the phone is dead, they throw it away immediately and thus the justification to buy the iphone 4 straight away. But the phone you’ve infected is in
So, I’d like to request that you fix that bug and resend the virus again about 3rd week of July. I need to backup some stuff so I’d appreciate if you could give me that few couple of days. Thanks Steve.
One more thing Steve, can you please NOT send that virus on my wife’s phone? For this year at least? I was planning to buy her the iphone on her next birthday and also because I’ve already decided to buy her something else this Christmas. Also, I am guessing there’s already a new model by then so she can have mine and I get the latest one. Booyaa. So yeah, I’d appreciate it if you could send the virus to her on early May 2011. Her name is Trini Paragas and her number is 0421…wait, I’m sure you already know her number, that’s how you sent “The Apple Worm” to my phone in the first place! Sorry if I doubted you a wee bit Steve. It’ll never happen again.

Britney != Gay
June 28, 2010The type of music you listen to should not dictate your sexual preference. I, for instance, appreciate many types of music, and it’s just sad that on her first day of work, JM thought I was gay because she heard “Dadalhin kita sa aking Palasyo” by Regine Velasquez coming out from my office PC. This song has a lot of good things going on. I love the music and the lyrics is just amazing. I heard that it was composed by the big bird himself - Ogie da pogi and the choice of the singer might have been biased but I still think they made a great decision on picking who interprets his work. Also, this song is just one of those handfuls that I’d love to hear on Philippine radio. I’d prefer this apparently gay song over Spaghetting pababa…pababa ng pababa….spaghetting pataas…pataWAAAAA!!!!! I FKIN HATE THIS SONG!!! Sorry, I always snap a bit when I hear novelty crap. All I am saying is that it’s a tad unfair to say that a person is homosexual because he loves to listen to descent music where the singer just happens to be a woman.
I write this because there is no way in hell that the guy beside me on my morning train is gay.
He’s just too huge and his facial hair also says otherwise. First I just thought, yeah he llikes Britney Spears when I heard “Toxic” on his too loud headphones. The solo is really catchy so I can’t blame this manly-man dude. Then, the next song was “Poker Face” and I was starting to have second thoughts. But you know what? There are a lot of female pop singers out there that aren’t really girlie at all. Take Katie Perry for instance. Her first hit is about lesbian action, thus the target audience is the male gender. Another good example is Amy Winehouse. Nuff said. Lily Allen is also one of those very talented stars; and she sings about her sex life so me having an extraordinary imagination appreciate this very, very, VERY much.
Anyway, back to this guy. After Lady Gaga I’m not sure what other songs were played but I think I heard some techno going on. So after a while, train slows down for the incoming station and I saw him getting ready to get off as well. I observe that he has all those manly accessories like a leather bag, very manly shoes plus he’s wearing leather jacket for chrissakes, he’s the manliest man inside this train. So, we both got off. Then…I saw him WALK. He was making little tiny steps and his hips were dancing. His arms making those tiny swings with the pinky finger prominently sticking out.
So my argument stands, the type of music you listen to will not tell your sexual preference, but your walk definitely will.

I think am loving this aussie carefree attitude, especially at the workplace. Just now I came from an almost 2-hour lunch break at an Irish pub where I had Irish stew and BEER. I’m pretty sure you get called to the Principal’s office if you do this in the Philippines. The work environment here, especially on IT companies, are very tolerant and they just don’t give a crap as long as you finish your 40hr work every week. Just this morning, I got off the train around 9:30am and although I am already very late for work I am still not rushing at all. I love flexi time!
So once I get to work, well to my desk for that matter, I first proceed to the kitchen to meet up with my coffee crew. 10 mins of barista time later, I’ll finally go to my desk and browse through my yahoo email to check if anyone has replied to a stupid facebook status I put up last night. Ok fine, 2 nights ago. After being disappointed that still only 1 person has replied (my reply still counts ok?!) I’ll then proceed to the little boy’s room for my morning poop. I don’t wanna go into detail on this one but if you are curious it just usually takes 2 mins for the product to be released but an 8 minute post implementation verification is required or else I’d have to go and re-deploy again once I’ve returned to my desk. So in essence, I am saving more time. Even with all of this dicking around at work, still I do not consider myself a slack because I am pretty sure it’s not just me. People generally start work at around 10am anyway thus I am merely adjusting my work period to align with my colleagues’ as I promote team work and solidarity.
So, experiencing both work environments here and in the Philippines, I don’t think the Filipino work force deserve to live in a third world country. We work too damn hard and sacrifice too damn much! I remember my 3 hour over time work which starts at 2am, and still I am expected to work 9am the same day. Here, management actually encourage employees to take time off once in a while as they are itching to go on theirs too. And because of utilisation forecast as well. Oh, and you won’t believe Fridays here. In some offices, as an inside joke, people get fined when they look busy on a Friday. And about finishing the 40hr week I mentioned, this flies out the window most of the time. I know this also happens in supervisorial and management levels in the Philippines, but here it’s from the ground up.
I think that because of this office culture, employers loooooove Filipino workers. Yeah, I do adapt to the work attitude here but still I don’t mind getting called up at 3am to do support work and it’s no big deal if they ask me to work on a Saturday. I guess it’s not a big secret that Filipinos love overtime so that they can save extra money and buy that 3rd car or send the money back home so their Lolo can buy a Videoke slot machine (I don’t get paid for overtime btw, I need to get a life). People here literally drop whatever they are doing when the bell rings and storm out the door, especially on a Friday! So if you wanna get someone to finish something, forget about sending it on a Friday. It just so happens that today is that day! People are excited for the coming weekend and today we never finish anyth…
Safely courteous
Living in Australia for nearly 3 years now, I have observed that Filipino courtesy is flawed. I think that is why the English language often discourages courtesy and is usually seen here as “patronising”.
I was brought up to make sure “po” and “opo” is used when talking to elders, and that using kinship titles such as “kuya”, “ate”, “tito” and “tita” is a must. We use these titles with everyone, not exclusive to relatives but to anyone who is older. And that is my biggest worry, what do you do if you are unsure about one’s age? (for some reason, that sentence felt like a voice over from sex and the city. I’m soooo a Carrie! A slut!) Either way, you are bound to offend someone. If you decide to be courteous and use “opo”, it may offend someone and tell you they are not THAT old. If you do not, you may be labelled bastos or walang modo!
And do you know what happens when you call a supposedly “Ate” a “Tita”? You will be hated for life.
This actually happened to Trini and me. There is this Filipino family that’s been invited to the same party as we were for almost 3 times already. In these parties, we’ve sat on the same table; we’ve exchanged pleasantries and even talked about our family back home. We’ve even been on the same photo for chrissakes! So, what happened to offend them so much that they ignore us whenever we see each other in the market every week? Trini used “opo” talking to this lady. Everybody who knew the lady was giggling when they heard it and the husband even joked about his wife’s age. What an ass. And maybe because it’s just embedded in our system to be courteous to elders, in this case an assumed elder, that Trini and I kept saying “po” and “opo” when speaking to her! So yeah, she hates us.
In here, as long as you don’t call everybody “Dude”, you shouldn’t be worried about anything. Also, “Mate” is unisex so it’s a very safe word. Yeah, I think the Conversational Authority in Modern Enlish Language or CAMEL (I just made this up) have thought about this, so they just discourage courtesy in everyday conversation in order to be safe. Calling people by their first name is also widely observed here, so it’s not impolite if I call our company CEO “John”. Unlike in the Philippines, we never ever call him “Sir”.
And do you know what happens when you call a supposedly “Ma’am” a “Sir”. You will be hated for life. But you might get kicked in the balls first. And then they hate you for life.
Twitter and FB killed the blogging star
Nah, I don’t micro-blog and only use Facebook to upload photos. I’m just looking for a valid reason why I don’t update my blog as much, which is kind of a yearly thing now.
I’ve noticed though that most of the bloggers I follow don’t update as much too, but they do advertise to follow them in twitter and/or check their Facebook page. Thing is, I don’t enjoy it as much as reading their stuff.
I had the time to write now because I am working onsite and my monitor is away from anyone else’s view! I’m also planning to get a qwerty phone soon (to replace my fucked up one) so hopefully I will update frequently now.
