Gently down the stream…
August 28, 2007Guess what I did this weekend? Oh, nothing much…just went rowing with the WOMEN OF PHILIPPINE ROWING TEAM! Yes Lady and Gentleman, I have taken this physical fitness shit tooooo far, I signed in for the philippine blue phoenix dragon boat club last friday and it was my 3rd training day just this morning. Barely survived the 3 days of back pains, blisters, leg bruises, waking up too fucking early, so I think I'll do it regularly now. Pain is good. Trainings are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 5:00 am Harbour Square, Manila Bay. They are preparing for competition this coming October at Subic and who knows? They might need…I don't know, a photographer? Or tanggero? One benifit for signing in is free physical training at the gym (which was supposed to be fifteen hundred pesoses for 10 sessions) since Sir Andy our instructor recruited us in the club, He monitors us in this Rower's program, which focuses on the back, shoulders and trapezius. Plus the other rowers in the gym gives us noobs some tips on proper diet, alternative exercises, etc etc.
I dragged my self to training the first day. That energy drink the day before made sure I was awake until 2am. And thanks to Sir Andy, first for almost killing me at the gym, (He introduced me to his very own "Andy's 50". 2 arm numbing sets of 20 full 10 lbs dumbell curls + 5 half curls from the bottom + 5 half curls from the top + another 10 full curls + 5 half curls at the bottom and finally 5 from the top) and second for not stopping me from drinking a can of bacchus. I barely survived the stretching exercises! The second day was worse. I haven't recovered from yesterday's beating and what's even worse was that the women of the philippine team watched me cry like a little bitch with every stroke of the paddle. You should've seen how humongous their bodies were. I mean, if you were both drunk, she could rape you. Without breaking a sweat. She could rape me. I mean, it's still pussah right? Also, never under estimate the built of a rower. No matter how thin, tiny or fat they may appear, as long as they're trained as a rower, they can paddle to Cavite and back…in 5 minutes! Anyways, this morning I felt gooder. It's like Kayosama gave me magic beans and like the gods of dragon boat sprinkled me with their power confetti powder thingy. I can now paddle for more or less a hundred before I feel like stopping. Also when exhausted I just rest for two to four strokes and I continue paddling again because, as what they told me, stopping abruptly and extensively messes up muscle memory and may cause decline in performance later on. I just fucking paddled until my arms break! I am humbled because I thought It'd take me weeks or months to catch up. Again, I am inspired by my team/gym mates for their discipline and dedication. For once in my life I want to develop these, and I think it's better late than never!
p.s.
I hope Mayor Alfredo "Dirty Harry" Lim uses our taxes to clean up Manila Bay. It's filthy. I try to close my mouth everytime we're paddling. I might grow a third eye from even tasting this stuff.
